The singer made the allegation in a video shared on his Instagram page, warning Nigerians against feeling pressured by displays of wealth they see at social gatherings and on social media.
According to Mr Real, the hired individuals spray money at events under an agreement with the host, who later returns the money while allowing them to keep a percentage of what other guests spray.
He said he learnt about the alleged practice after a disturbance broke out at a hotel where he was staying in Abuja. When he went to find out what was happening, he encountered someone he knew, who later explained the situation to him privately.
Mr Real said the individuals involved were known as “money sprayers” and were hired to create the impression of lavish spending at parties. He added that the amount they spray depends on their agreement with the host and that some also use dollars.
The singer alleged that the arrangement typically involves the host returning the money initially sprayed, while the hired individuals receive between 10 and 15 per cent of the money sprayed by other guests.
He further claimed that the disagreement at the Abuja hotel began after the host allegedly discovered $800 in counterfeit notes among the money sprayed at an event. According to him, the host accused the hired individuals, who denied responsibility and suggested that the notes could have come from the celebrant’s friends.
Expressing surprise at the alleged scheme, Mr Real warned that guests could feel compelled to spray money after watching what they believe to be genuine displays of generosity.
He also claimed that the practice was common in Lagos, particularly in Lekki.
The allegations have raised questions about staged displays of wealth at social events, although the claims have not been independently verified.
